It’s hard to believe, but July 4th is already less than a month away! This classic holiday celebrates the birth of American independence. Across the country, people come together to commemorate the occasion with fireworks, parades, concerts, family gatherings, and, of course, BBQs!
Are you looking to host a fun, festive cookout this year? Our Summer Blog Series will walk you through each step of the planning process and leave you with an al fresco celebration that guests will truly enjoy. Planning ahead will not only leave you prepared, but will help ensure that you get to sit back, relax, and enjoy the merriment, too.
When planning, great BBQ food isn’t the only (or even the first) aspect to consider. The actual look and feel of your party can turn a meal with friends and family into an event that everyone will talk about for years to come.
Follow these guidelines to start planning the sights of your party:
Creating Your Vision
You know you want to host a perfect summer bash. You may even know that you’d like a 4th of July theme; but do you have a vision? Browse magazines or websites to pull together style and color concepts. These summer color palette ideas from Pinterest are a great starting point.
Ask yourself these questions when planning the perfect BBQ:
- Is your ideal backyard party formal and fancy or laid-back and casual?
- Does it require rentals, or work well with what you already have on-hand?
- Are you crafty or will you have to order decoration in advance?
- What is the theme of your party?
If you have a specific theme in mind, like “America,” for example, a quick online search for “American decor” or “America party” will be rewarded with a plethora of creative and unique ideas.
Preparing the Ambiance
Another “sight-focused” initial planning step is preparing your backyard. An upcoming summer event is the perfect excuse to spruce things up a bit. Invest in some new garden furniture, or dress up your current offerings with fresh, brightly-colored cushions. Plant some flowers, bushes or trees, edge around those you already have, or lay down fresh mulch. Consider arranging furniture in ways that encourage socialization, or setting up a bocce area to help break the ice. As the BBQ approaches, look to add ambiance by hanging fairy lights or setting up torches and candles.
